Training Recap: solid dosage manufacturing (Jan 7–8)

O’Hara Technologies was proud to contribute technical coating expertise during a custom solid dosage manufacturing training hosted by Techceuticals at their lab in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 7–8, designed specifically for Alkermes as they continue expanding their solid dosage portfolio.

Representing O’Hara technologies inc., Jim Marjeram supported the program with practical, real-world insight into film coating, process discipline, and the upstream decisions that determine coating success at scale.

This hands-on training focused on practical manufacturing concepts across the solid dosage workflow while reinforcing regulatory-aligned best practices that support repeatable outcomes in commercial operations.

O’Hara’s contribution centered on a simple principle: consistent coating performance is engineered through controlled process conditions and robust tablet cores, not corrected late in the process.

Key areas discussed from an O’Hara perspective included:

  • How upstream variability shows up as coating variability
  • Why tablet core integrity and uniformity matter for coating yield
  • How airflow and drying capacity define the real operating window
  • Common coating defects and what typically causes them in production

The goal was to help teams connect cause and effect across unit operations, so coating performance becomes predictable, scalable, and easier to validate.

This two-day program reinforced best practices across the end-to-end process, including:

  • Unit operations
  • Powder preparations
  • High shear granulation
  • Top spray fluid bed granulation
  • Milling
  • Blending
  • Tablet Making
  • Tablet compression tooling
  • Tableting performance
  • Film coating

O’Hara appreciates opportunities to support training programs that strengthen the technical foundation of solid dosage teams, especially as manufacturers expand portfolios, build new operations, or scale commercial output. We appreciate Alkermes and Techceuticals for including O’Hara in this program and for prioritizing practical learning rooted in real manufacturing needs.

O’Hara Technologies extends its thanks to Jesus Lopez, PE, and the Techceuticals team for hosting and fostering collaboration across the industry. Events like this strengthen the global pharmaceutical community and drive the adoption of more efficient, reliable, and innovative tablet coating solutions.
