In 1976, a small team in Richmond Hill, Ontario set out to solve a problem the pharmaceutical industry hadn’t fully solved yet: how to coat tablets consistently, efficiently, and at a scale manufacturers could trust. Fifty years later, that team’s original commitment, precision engineering built around the people who use it, is still what defines O’Hara Technologies today.
This year marks our 50th anniversary, and it’s a milestone we’re celebrating not just as a company, but as a community of engineers, operators, formulators, and partners who’ve shaped tablet coating technology together for half a century.
A Half-Century of Pharmaceutical Tablet Coating Innovation
Founded in 1975, O’Hara Technologies has spent five decades designing and manufacturing tablet coating equipment for pharmaceutical manufacturers around the world. What started as a Richmond Hill-based operation has grown into a globally recognized name in coating technology, with equipment running in production facilities across dozens of countries.
Over the years, our product lineup has evolved alongside the industry we serve:
- GEN II II batch coaters: engineered for reliability and precision at commercial production scale
- FCC series continuous coaters: built for manufacturers moving toward continuous manufacturing processes
- Labcoat lab-scale coaters: designed for formulation scientists and R&D teams developing and scaling new coating formulations
Each product line reflects the same philosophy that guided our founders in 1975: equipment should be built around the realities of the people running it, from procurement teams evaluating total cost of ownership, to production directors managing uptime, to R&D leads chasing formulation accuracy.
